As of September 2009, there are a total of 505 people from 38 different countries that have flown in space. This is according to data from the Astronautic Records Commission of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), a worldwide governing body for astronautics, among other air sports. The FAI defines an astronaut as someone who has flown to an altitude of 100 km and beyond.

Actually, the number of ASTRONAUTS is 1,002 while the number of people who have gone into space IS 505….Kudos.
