80 arches
It is important to know the fact that the decision which led to building the Colosseum was made by the Vespasian, a Roman emperor. Needless to say, Colosseum represents a symbol of the power of Rome and its emperors. There were four arches on the axes of the building, the main entrances, and the other 76 arches were numbered for an easier access to the seats.
