How many aquaculture species are there?

The most important aquaculture species are represented by aquatic plants, fish, crustaceans and Mollusks.  Keep in mind that bivalve mollusks are either grown on the beach or suspended from rafts.  They are harvested by hand or by dredging.  There are also aquatic reptiles, amphibians, and miscellaneous invertebrates, such as echinoderms and jellyfish.  It is important to know that the most important fish species used in fish farming all over the world are: carp, salmon, tilapia and catfish.  Moreover, aquaculture shellfish include various oyster, mussel and clam species.
