How many unemployed Americans are there?

14.837 million.

There are 14.837 million unemployed Americans in January 2010. This is according to the Employment Situation Summary released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics in February 5, 2010. This number represents 9.7% of the total American working population. 59% of those unemployed are males 16 years old and above.

    If the total number of people who lost their jobs since 2008, were combined with those who stopped looking for work, I believe the real unemployment numbers would be closer to 14%. Unfortunately, that will never be reported because it would disrupt the narrative about the economy getting better. The media and the White House claim that there are fewer people filing for unemployment. That can be explained easily. We are approaching the point where the minimum number of employed is being maintained by those companies that can still make a simple profit are doing so. That still leaves over 14% of the workforce unemployed.

    the president wont give us extended benefits because he only goes by unemployment insurance benefits. Now our jobs go to illegals. I am homeless thank you, Obama.
