How many African Americans are brought to America?

1,541,915.

In 2008 there are a total of 1,436,000 African Americans in the United States that were born in Africa. This is in addition to the 105,915 persons born in Africa that are seeking legal permanent resident status in the United States for the same year. This brings the number of African Americans brought to America to at least 1,541,915. These numbers are based on the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau Statistical Handbook.

First of all if they were born and raised in Africa then they aren’t African-Americans, they are Africans. Even that that is a misnomer. It is like referring to someone from Canada or Mexico as an American. While technically correct they either a Canadian or Mexican. And to say they were “brought” here implies it was against their will, likely for the purpose of slavery. Since these numbers are from 2010 I doubt this is why they came here so you are misrepresenting their voluntary immigration. I doubt this article would attract as much interest if it were accurately titled “Number of Africans who Immigrated to America.”
