How many acidified lakes are there?
14000 only in Sweden
It is important to know the fact that Sweden has over 85,000 lakes. They are greater than one hectare in size. Believe it or not, 14,000 are acidified by air pollution. Not too many people know the fact that 4,000 lakes in Sweden are being severely acidified. This is a significant percentage. In the recent years authorities tried to restore the pH of many of Sweden’s waters. Not too many people know the fact that acid sensitive species are absent from around 40% of Sweden’s rivers and streams.
