How many abdominal injuries are there?

It is important to know the fact that the abdomen can be injured in many types of trauma.  Keep in mind that injuries are often categorized by type of structure that is damaged: abdominal wall, solid organ (liver, spleen, pancreas, kidneys), hollow viscus (stomach, small intestine, colon, ureters, bladder) and vasculature.  The exact number of abdominal injuries is not known.  It is important to understand the fact that injuries to the abdomen can be difficult to recognize and treat.  Unfortunately, many injuries can go unnoticed until they become very serious.
