A child born in the United States, to immigrant parents, becomes an American citizen and can later sponsor the immigration of other relatives. Such babies are called “Anchor babies”.

According to the Pew Hispanic report, around 73% of the children of illegal immigrants were citizens in 2008, and a total of 3.8 million unauthorized immigrants had at least one child who is now an American citizen. One in every 13 children, who was born in the US, is born to an immigrant parent.
