Victoria’s Secret is the most famous lingerie retailer in America. It was founded in 1977 by Roy Raymond, who afterwards committed suicide for some unknown reason. The word ‘lingerie’ is derived from the French ‘linge’ meaning ‘washable’ and from ‘lin’ meaning ‘linen’ or ‘cotton.’ In French the word applies to both the male and female undergarments while in English it denotes women’s sexy or erotic undergarments. Victoria’s Secret promotes undergarments and sleepwear to an elite class through conducting an annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Secrets and shows are paradoxical but a befitting expression for displaying the undergarments which are supposed to be a secret. The first four Victoria’s Secret Shows were held at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. In view of its being televised, it is now conducted at the Lexington Avenue Armory in New York City. It was formerly held a day before Valentine’s Day but is now held just before the Christmas holidays. The show features about 30 super models of which about 12 are the Victoria’s Secret Angels who are considered the best of the best models. They wear large angel’s wings and are considered the most beautiful and most attractive models in the industry.

1. Tyra Banks

Tyra Lynne Banks was born to Caroline London and Donald Banks in Inglewood, California, U.S. on December 4, 1973. She is a former American author, television personality, and a fashion model. She became famous after appearing twice on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Her working as one of the original angels of Victoria’s Secret added to her fame enormously. She is the creator of the popular UPN, CW reality television show America’s Next Top Model. She also hosted The Tyra Banks Show. She is one of only four African-Americans and one of only seven Americans who were repeatedly ranked by Time magazine among the World’s Most Influential People. When she was 17 years old, she signed with Elite Model Management, and instead of continuing her studies left for Paris. She modeled there for a year for many big names in the fashion industry including Ralph Lauren and Chanel. She said, ‘Black women don’t have the same body image problems as white women. They are proud of their bodies.’

2. Doutzen Kroes Cannes

Doutzen Kroes Cannes was born in Eastermar, Netherlands on January 23, 1985. She is a Dutch fashion model and is a Victoria’s Secret Angel. She started working in 2004 and became an angel in 2008. Forbes ranked her the fifth highest-earning model who earned $6.9 million in 1 year. She is 5 feet 9 inches tall with blonde hair and blue eyes and U.S. measurements of 34-24.5-34.5. She has appeared on the covers of Time, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire’s Seventeen, Glamour & W, Elle, Avantgarde, and Dazed & Confused. Her campaigns include prestigious names like Gucci and Calvin Klein.

3. Miranda May Kerr

Miranda May Kerr was born to Therese and John Kerr in Sydney, Australia on April 20, 1983. She was raised in the small town of Gunnedah, New South Wales. She became famous after attaining the position of a Victoria’s Secret Angel. She is the first Australian to be on board Victoria’s Secret. She is 5 feet 9 inches tall and has brown hair and blue eyes. Candice Swanepoel was born on October 20, 1988, in a small town known as Moori River in KwaZulu  Natal Province of South Africa. She is best known for her work at Victoria’s Secret. She has appeared on the covers of the most prestigious magazines, including: Elle, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Lush, and Ocean Drive. She had also appeared in the advertisements of Nike, Guess, Tom Ford, and many others. She had also participated in the events of Tomy Hilfiger, Dolce, and Gabana, Rag & Bone, Chanel, Givenchy, and Prabal Gurung. She has appeared continuously from 2007 to 2012 in the Victoria’s Secret brand commercials. She became a Victoria’s Secret Angel in 2010 and opened the first Victoria’s Secret store in Canada. Forbes ranked her as the #10 Top- earning Model with $3 million earned between 2010 and 2011.

5 Adriana Lima

Adriana Lima was born in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil on June 12, 1981.  She is an actress and fashion model best known for her work at Victoria’s Secret since 2000. She is 5 feet 10 inches tall with brown hair and blue eyes. She measures 34-24-35. Since her becoming an Angel in 2000, she has opened the Victoria’s Secret show five times. She was one of the five Angels, known as Angels Across America, who were assigned to promote Victoria’s Secret at the national level. In addition to Adriana Lima, the tour members included: Alessandra Ambrosio, Heidi Klum, Gisele Bundchen, and Tyra Banks. Gisele Bundchen was born as one of the twin sisters,in Tres de Maio, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil on July 29, 1980. She is one of the top models in the fashion industry and an occasional actress. She is also a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations’ Environment Program. She is 5 feet 11 inches tall with light brown hair and bluish-green eyes. She measures 34-25-35. From 2000 to 2007, Bundchen was an Angel of Victoria’s Secret. She has been the highest-paid model in the world in the fashion industry since 2004 and is the 16th richest woman in the entertainment industry.

7. Lily Aldridge

Lily Maud Aldridge was born to Alan Aldridge, an English artist, and Laura Lyons, a Playboy Playmate of the month in Los Angeles, California on November 15, 1985. She is best known for her work at Victoria’s Secret. She is 5 feet 9 inches tall and has a brown hair color and brown eye color. She measures 33-23-33.She walked into the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 2009 for the first time and on walking again in 2010 she was given the wings of a Victoria’s Secret Angel in 2010.
