Walt Disney was born on December 5,1901 in Hermosa, Illinois. Walt Disney is most famous for his motion picture production companies and theme parks around the world built upon his name. Disney was one of the pioneers who ventured into television with his show entitled Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color. Disney passed away on December 15, 1966 from lung cancer.

Fact 1. Disney has his picture featured on a 6-cent United States commemorative postage stamp that was issued September 11, 1968.

Fact 2.   It is a rumor that Walt Disney’s body is frozen in a cryonics chamber.

Fact 3.    In terms of education, Disney did not get his high school diploma as he had quit school at the age of 16.  However, he had won honorary degrees from Yale and Harvard.

Fact 4.  Disney had a record-breaking career and received 22 Oscar Awards which is more than anyone else.

Fact 5.  Disney tried to enlist in the U.S. Army during WWI but was rejected because of his age (16).

Fact 6. Walt Disney Studios created the first, multi-plane camera used to achieve the effect of depth in animated films.

Fact 7. Disney’s favorite song was “Feed the Birds,” from the film Mary Poppins because of the subtle message about human kindness.

Fact 8.  Laugh-O-Gram was the name of Disney’s first studio. It created cartoons based on fairy tales that combined live action and fairy tales. One of the fairy tales was called Alice in Cartoonland.

Fact 9. Mickey Mouse was one of the most famous cartoons created by Walt Disney.

Fact 10. There are five Disney theme parks located around the world: U.S. (Florida and California), Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo, and Paris.
