Facts About the Ku Klux Klan

The Ku Klux Klan was initiated by a group of men who were antagonistic against non-whites, especially African-Americans. Most of the members had fought in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Subsequent to the Civil War, the Ku Klux Klan movement was founded.

Fact 1.  Ku Klux Klan was founded in the late 1800s.

Fact 2.   From its initiation, the group’s influence spread fast to most of the Southern States that were part of the Confederation due to a hatred for African-American slaves.

Fact 3.    Due to the increasing racial tensions caused by the movement, the United States Congress passed legislation to ban the Klan. Regardless of the ban, the movement was still active.

Fact 4.  The quest for white supremacy was the underlying unifying factor of the Klan.

Fact 5.  In the first era of the Klan, many of their actions were not as radical as the third era. The campaigns undertaken by the members were mainly to intimidate white and black Republican leaders.

Fact 6. Protestant citizens revived the Klan to form the second era of the KKK. This time, along with despising African-Americans, they also showed hatred to Hispanics and Roman Catholics.

Fact 7. During the second era, the Klan conducted non-violent actions to intimidate people. These included rallies, sit-downs, and public speaking.

Fact 8.  More people joined the Klan in the 1960s during the Civil Rights       movement. This was to show their continued hatred of giving rights to African-Americans. They were more radical this time, blowing up black churches as well as schools.

Fact 9. The Klan is instantly recognized by their conical-shaped headdress and white uniform.

Fact 10. At the last official meeting of the Ku Klux Klan in the 21st Century, only 80 members were present. However, a few of these members were comprised of children, proving a future generation of KKK members had been founded.

    Total BS with unsubstantiated factoids. The true fact is that the KKK is a Democrat lead organization. Whoopsie!

      Jim Allen III, Think about the facts that were stated logically If one goal of the KKK was initially to intimidate white and black Republican leaders, then which party do you really think was behind the KKK? There is no “total BS” here-just that the wording wasn’t quite the way that YOU would have wanted it. Reading with comprehension and thought required. Whoopsie!
