He is also called ‘œThe horse tamer.’ The origin of the name ‘œPoseidon’ is still unclear as many theories put forth are still impossible to prove. Some scholars also propose that Poseidon was the first god of the Earth and the creator of earthquakes. He is also believed to be closely associated with horses. Scholars also propose that he is believed to be seen in the crashing of the waves on the seashore. Poseidon married Amphitrite, a sea goddess, and is believed to have had several children from other illicit liaisons.
