FFA is a farmer’s organisation in America. It is also known as the ‘Future Farmers of America’ and was founded in 1928 by a group of farmers. FFA works towards a mission that is to prepare the future generations who will face different kinds of challenges for feeding a growing population. It is the Future Farmers of America who have introduced the concept that agriculture a science, business as well as art and goes much beyond mere planting and harvesting.

  • FFA is led by a board of directors and 6 student national officers.

  • FFA operates at three different levels: local, state and national level.

  • In order to reflect the growing diversity of the organisation in the field of agriculture, in 1991 the FFA name was changed to “The National FFA Organisation”.

  • Each member of the Future Farmers of America has to contribute $7 per annum while the organisation also receives funding through other means like sponsorships and private donations at the local, state and National levels.

  • Future Farmers of America has its own flag of national blue and corn gold colour. The blue colour is taken from the nation’s flag while the golden represents the harvest of ripe corn and symbolises unity of the country.

  • FFA members have a special jacket which is said to be one of the most recognisable symbols of the organisation. Members have to wear this jacket and it is their duty to keep it clean and be wearing it on all official occasions. Wearing it to school and other places where it is deemed appropriate is permitted.

  • Members intending to sell or give away their FFA jacket to any non-member, must remove its emblem and lettering. Wearing the jacket also requires members to behave responsibly refraining from any unprofessional behaviour.

  • Members of the Future Farmers of America also have other dress codes. Females for example have to wear a white blouse and a black skirt with the official blue scarf of FFA, official jacket and black shoes. Male members must wear black slacks, white shirt, official FFA tie along with black shoes and socks and the jacket.

  • The FFA has their own Pledge of Allegiance that is considered an official salute and is done by placing the right hand over the left hand of the chest and repeating the Pledge.

  • Millions of agriculture students since the founding of the organisation have become a member and donned the official FFA jacket along with championing the FFA creed.

  • The benefits of FFA and its membership is not restricted to men alone but has opened doors to minorities, women etc. in order to ensure that the greatest number of agriculturists can reap its benefits.
