Deer are highly adaptable animals that can live in any habitat. They are found on all continents apart from Antarctica and Australia. There are roughly 100 kinds of deer, which include elk, moos, whitetail deer and reindeer among others. Interestingly, the only animal species that has antlers is the deer.

Fact 1: The eyes of a deer are located on the side of the head thus providing them a wide 310 degrees view. Deer also have night vision that helps them near dusk and early in the morning.

Fact 2: Male deer, known as bucks, grow brand new antlers every year. In addition, antlers have the ability to grow very fast compared to any other living tissue.

Fact 3: When a predator is nearby and deer feel endangered, they usually raise their tails so as to warn the other deer.

Fact 4: Unlike other mature deer, fawns do not have a scent and thus predators like leopards or lions cannot easily smell them.

Fact 5: Deer cause numerous car accidents every year resulting in the death of roughly 180 people.

Fact 6: Deer have an advanced hearing system since they have many muscles attached directly to the ear allowing them to easily turn the ear in several directions, without even moving the head. They can also hear a higher frequency of sound compared to humans.

Fact 7: Instead of having teeth in the upper jaw, deer have a firm palate that is used just like regular teeth.

Fact 8: The long legs and powerful muscles of the deer enable it to jump over 10 ft high and run very fast at speeds of more than 40mph.

Fact 9: Besides running and jumping very high, deer are very fast swimmers.

Fact 10: Fawns mature very quickly and they normally start running around within 30 minutes after birth.
