Fact 1. One of Franklin’s most famous quote is, “If you would not be forgotten, as soon as you are dead and rotten, either write things worth reading, or do things worth the writing.

 Fact 2.   Franklin took an active position in the community by establishing educational institutions, insurance companies, fire departments, and agricultural colleges.

Fact 3.   Within the realm of science, Franklin is well-known for experiments ranging from that of electricity to the common cold.

Fact 4.  Franklin organized the first volunteer fire fighting club in Philadelphia in 1736 as part of his citizenry efforts and established the Pennsylvania Hospital in 1751.

Fact 5.  Franklin negotiated treaties with Great Britain, France, Germany, Sweden, and Spain establishing America’s position on the world political platform.

Fact 6.  Franklin was of the opinion that between Guadeloupe and Canada, Canada was the better choice. Franklin’s thoughts were penned in the document, ‘œThe Interest of Great Britain Considered with Regard to Her Colonies and Acquisitions of Canada and Guadeloupe.‘

Fact 7.  Franklin was an avid swimmer who invented aquatic fins to aid in swimming.

Fact 8.  Franklin, concerned about improving his moral outlook, set up a personal self-improvement plan based on virtues of moral perfection which he practiced for a week.

 Fact 9. Franklin visited Europe during the summer of 1761 accompanied by his son, William. He was curious on the habits and cultures of the Europeans. In Belgium, he was pleasantly surprised that the Belgians took a non-conventional view of the Sabbath.

Fact 10. In the Netherlands, Franklin met up with Pieter van Musschenbroek who introduced the Leyden electrical jar which was used in many of Franklin’s experiments.
