Acapulco officially called Acapulco de Juarez is a city, municipality and major sea port in the south east of state of Guerrero on the Pacific coast of Mexico. It is famous for tourism and its beautiful recreational sites. This place is rich in history. Having being located in extra-ordinary natural beauty, it is also known as Mexican Riviera. Acapulco has been known for its several attributes out of which some are as follows:

Fact 1:

Acapulco is one of the largest city of the state of Guerrero, having the population of 673,479 according to 2010 census.

Fact 2:

Acapulco is a sea port performing its duty of shipping from many years back in history. In the 15 century trade became a usual fare of life, mostly between Acapulco and Peru and Asia. For more than 250 years, a special trading ship, Santa Anna, known to English as the Manila Galleo made one annual trip from Acapulco to Manila and the Orient.

Fact 3:

Acapulco was given the title of city in 1550. It is a distinguished tourist area having many luxury hotels, sport, spa centers, and residential area and above all, it has outstanding beaches.

Fact 4:

The word Acapulco has its origin from the native tongue of Nahoas which means ‘œThe place where the reeds were destroyed’ It was named this as per some myths and stories regarding its history.

Fact 5:

Acapulco has two main bays: The Bay of Santa Lucia, where the port is located, and Puerto Marqués, as smaller inlet to the east of the Bay of Santa Lucia.

Fact 6:

La-Quebrada is one of the famous site of Acapulco for cliff diving. It is one of most thrilling dive sites of the world where cliff divers make his/her dive from the height of 41.5 meters (136 feet) into the water which is only 2.9 meters (9.5 feet) deep. The divers have been one of Mexico’s most famous attraction since 1940s.

The earliest inhabitant of Acapulco were Nahua Indians (the predecessors of the Aztecs)

Fact 8:

The strongest tropical cyclone of Pacific Ocean hurricane Raymond hit as disaster in Mexico, introducing steady rain fall in Acapulco in 2013 which became the cause of devastating damage in the coastal areas. This was a third such cyclone of its kind, the other being the Hurricane Raymond of 1983 and 1989.
