Ways To Recycle

“Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle” – this slogan has become one of the most familiar and one of the most often used ones; thanks to all the propaganda created by environment enthusiasts. But the question is – How to reduce usage of not disposable items? How to reuse things to reduce their production and consumption? And, finally, how to recycle things so the same material can be used for different purposes!

Finding the answer to these questions can be difficult; considering the fact that the environment-enthusiasts who propagate the slogans do not always make it clear how to go about it. So, let’s look at some ways to recycle, which, although is the last in the list has a foremost place in making our environment a better place.

Recycling begins at home!

If there is one thing common between ‘Charity’ and ‘Recycling’, it must be that they begin at home. To ensure that you can recycle things used at home; you need to consider this aspect when you go to purchase them at your department store or supermarket. Don’t buy things that cannot be recycled; especially things packed in non-recyclable material! Nowadays, most products convey this information in their labels or packaging; so make sure you check that out.

Almost, everything in our house can be recycled – starting with the paper and plastics and going up to the furniture and electronic gizmos. Recycling plastics, paper, and glass is the easier part; the same cannot be said of wood and electronic items. So here, you would have to apply the policy of reuse and reduce. And probably, this is the time to also bring in “repair”. The moment your furniture is broken or your electronic item malfunctions; don’t consider the dump yard, see if there is a way to repair it. It will help save the world from a lot of extra dump!!

Segregate And Separate!

Although these two words are taboo when it comes to the health of nations and community living, it is considered the golden words when it comes to recycling and the health of our environment!! First we need to learn to segregate waste that can be recycled and waste that cannot. This is the first step in any recycling process.

Separating food waste from non-food waste helps us to recycle both in a more effective and efficient manner. Whether for use in our terrace gardens or for use in the communities vegetable gardens or maybe even for the development of bio fuels; food waste has several uses. So ensuring the segregation of this waste helps us to recycle them for further benefits!

Separating non-food waste into paper, plastic, glass, or other electronic items helps us to dispose them in the right place and in the right manner. All that you need to do to make this task easy is to maintain separate bins and dispose them in the right one – both within your homes and in the community you live in.

Recycling is a Community Effort!

If recycling has to be successful it needs to be a concerted effort. It is true that it has to start within every home; but to really benefit the environment it has to extend to the community we live in! Joining hands is important to make it a significant act that contributes to the betterment of the environment. Because waste that is segregated at home and dumped together in a landfill does not make any sense!!

Moreover, a lot of waste that cannot be reused in our home can be reused by someone else in the community! It can be converted into something commercially viable with some investment, which may not be practically possible to implement within each home but possible as a community.

Recycling is the Future!

With the world running out of landfill spaces and the soil, air, and water getting polluted beyond repair; it is time to sit up and act. Because if we don’t start recycling at least now, we might not have space to live, air to breathe, and water to drink!
