Fact 4 Difference Between House And Trance

In spite of the features that the two genres share with each other, House and Trance have a few differences as well. They are:

  1. House music first began in Illinois in the early part of 1980s. It was greatly appreciated by African-Americans and became popular among the gay dance audiences and Latino-American dancers, in discotheques. The basic elements of funk, disco and soul were present in House music. Bass drum beats were like the percussion used in disco music. However, being an electronic music genre, electronic drums are used. A baseline synthesizer and delayed vocal marks the uniqueness of House music. Trance music on the other hand, gives more preference to influences of synthetic sounds. It lacks the feeling of live-sound of House.
  2. Initially the tempo of House was not as fast as it is today. However it is still considered as mid-tempo by contemporary musicians although it has changed a great deal. The tempo of Trance is faster as compared to House. A 120 to 160 range of BPM and 32 beat phrases are unique of Trance.
  3. Melody plays an important part in House music. It is more provocative and upbeat as compared to Trance. Trance has sub-genres that include Acid, Uplifting trance and Classic.
  4. House uses live-sound samples and is therefore more enchanting and warm as it includes funk elements to a large extent. Trance music however, focuses on chord progression and layered sounds. It uses faster rhythms and is therefore faster sonically as well.
  5. There is also another major difference between House and Trance regarding the build-up, break down and drop.
